White tiles noise

I once had the honor to wonder a mall half an hour after it was opened to the public in the morning. Strange thing. First of all, it was nearly empty. Actually there was nobody in the halls but me and the cleaners. Second, it was quiet. You could actually hear your own footsteps. At first, I thought this was just because of the lack of thousand of feet, but I didn't remember ever complaining about the noise the crowd was making at malls.

And then it hit me. The music! The annoying mall music, that was constantly being pumped into the unsuspecting ears of the crowds to help it avoid thinking! The music was off! impressive, I thought to myself - I may be in the first mall-event in history with no background music. And no announcements about lost wallets and found kids on the speakers, either. I was so happy with my discovery that I almost didn't notice when the Spice Girls started, well, singing something. Or was it Mariah Carey? I don't know. I don't remember. But that's the point, isn't it?
